Boknäs is member of the panel for the Finnish design competition Muoto 2011

This year the Finnish magazine Koti & Keittiö (Home & Kitchen) is celebrating its 15th anniversary. To celebrate this event, its publishing house Aller Media has invited representatives of seven renowned Finnish companies to award the most influetial names in the Finnish design scene.

Boknäs is known for its beautiful design and high quality furniture in Finland and abroad, and therefore Irja Boman, Marketing Director at Boknäs Furniture Ltd., has been invited to participate as one of the jurors in the muoto 2011 panel. Muoto 2011 (design 2011) chose representatives from nine different categories in interior design, such as best newcomer, textiles, furniture and design-innovation. The three best of each category are introduced to the readers in the June-July edition of the Koti & Keittiö magazine.

The readers have the possibility to vote for their favorite from the most influential names in the Finnish design scene. On September 1st 2011, Aller Media hosts a festive event in the Finlandia house in Helsinki where the winners of the competition are to be announced. About 300 guests are expected to attend the gala evening.  Boknäs will furnish and decorate the lounge area of the venue Veranda hall in the Finlandia house.

All awardees of the competition will exhibit a selection of their work on the Habitare Furniture and Interior Decoration & Design fair that takes place in Helsinki in September 2011. Boknäs presents its novelties on stand 6b69.

Boknäs supports SEA LIFE organization

The Boknäs logo was inspired by the shell of a turtle and it symbolizes its modularity. Just like a tortoiseshell, Boknäs furniture adjusts perfectly to the living conditions of its owner. Various modules can be added and yet the entire combination excels itself with longevity and character time after time.

Boknäs cooperates with SEA LIFE Helsinki: The S.O.S. (Save Our Seas) TURTLES -campaign is raising funds for a turtle rescue centre and for improving the conditions of turtles in general.

The Boknäs management awarded four employees with a trip to visit the SEA LIFE base on the Greek island of Zakynthos, in order to learn more about its work. Loggerhead turtles have returned to this island for generations to breed and make their nests. The Boknäs personnel learned about the turtles' living conditions and the threats they face in the increased tourism on the island today.

It is unfortunate but all species of marine turtles are threatened with extinction. One of the biggest threats to turtles is the loss of their nesting habitat. Therefore, Boknäs will continue its support for the SEA LIFE organization and their pledge to build an urgently needed turtle hospital on Zakynthos in Agios Sostis, where injured turtles can be cared for until they are well enough to return to the wild.

Boknäs Furniture Ltd – Company of the Year 2010 of Helsinki Area

The Regional Organisation of Enterprises in Helsinki has awarded Boknäs Furniture Ltd. the title of Company of the Year 2010 of Helsinki Area at the traditional celebration hosted by the Entrepreneurs of Helsinki in honour of Finland’s Independence Day in December of 2010. Over 300 entrepreneurs from the Helsinki region participated in this event. Managing director of Boknäs Furniture Ltd. Jokko Salmevaara accepted the award with humble gratitude: “There are many good companies in the Helsinki area and we are very proud to be awarded the title of Company of the Year 2010 in this region.”
